Influence of Different European Code Provisions for Capacity Design on the Seismic Performance of Reinforced Concrete Frames

چکیده

Performance-based seismic codes ensure proper inelastic behaviour of reinforced concrete frames through capacity design, among others. This strategy relies not only on avoiding brittle failures and providing ductility to plastic hinges but also in their distribution within the frame aimed at a greater number storeys involved eventual collapse mechanism. Although are generally agreement some basic principles order they show discrepancies regarding specific strategies. In this paper, design provisions proposed by European current codes—Eurocode 8, Italian NTC, Spanish NCSE-02—are compared, effectiveness is discussed. The alternative formulation code for “strong column–weak beam” turns out be suitable under circumstances, such as with large gravity loads or significant cantilever deformation lower storeys. Regarding value axial load columns considered calculation shear moment capacities, three could eventually cause unconservative perimeter columns. whole set proved effective due different fundamentals—they based overstrength instead capacity. For all cases, procedures suggested work.

assessment of the park- ang damage index for performance levels of rc moment resisting frames

Damage-Based Seismic Performance Evaluation of Reinforced Concrete Frames

A damage-based approach for the performance-based seismic assessment of reinforced concrete frame structures is proposed. A new methodology for structural damage assessment is developed that utilizes response information at the material level in each section fiber. The concept of the damage evolution is analyzed at the section level and the computed damage is calibrated with observed experiment...

Concentrically Braced Frames: European vs. North American Seismic Design Provisions

A critical review of seismic design provisions for concentrically braced frames (CBFs) in both European and North American (i.e. US and Canadian) codes is presented in this paper. Indeed, even though those codes are based on capacity design philosophy, different requirements and different approaches are used to guarantee the hierarchy of resistances between dissipative and non-dissipative eleme...

Seismic Performance of Reinforced Concrete Frames Infilled by Masonry Walls with Different Heights

This study carried out comparative seismic performance of reinforced concrete frames infilled by masonry walls with different heights. Partial and fully infilled reinforced concrete frames were modeled for the research objectives and the analysis model for a bare reinforced concrete frame was also established for comparison. Non–linear static analyses for the studied frames were performed to in...

Considering the Soil Effects on Design Process of Performance-Based Plastic Design for Reinforced Concrete Structures

In this research, Performance-Based Plastic Design (PBPD) method has been modified according to the proposed method for considering Soil–Structure Interaction (SSI) effects. In the proposed modified method, based on the existing relationships and in order to maintain the simplicity of the PBPD design method, two important parameters have been modified in the PBPD design method. These two parame...
